2025-onwards CV-R5 introduced by KYMCO
For a lot of motorcycle manufacturers, adventure bikes have been topping their sales charts for the last couple of years, and Taiwan-based KYMCO wants a piece of that as it introduces the CV-R5 adventure scooter at this year’s EICMA in Italy.
Challenger to X-ADV
While Honda’s X-ADV has a clear 318 cc in displacement and 24 ps in power advantage over the CV-R5, KYMCO clearly wants to challenge the bigger Japanese adventure scooter by offering it to a much broader audience at a (hopefully) more affordable price tag.
The CV-R5’s silhouette is characterized by a full LED headlight, a high handlebar, handguards, and a sporty exhaust. The high central tunnel flows into the seat, at 800 mm from the ground.
The underseat compartment has enough space to store a full-face or crossover helmet. The CV-R5 also features a keyless start/stop, color TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, ABS, traction control, and tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The Kymco CV-R5 is powered by a 427 cc, single-cylinder engine with ride-by-wire throttle and multiple engine mapping.
It delivers a maximum power of 34.4 ps and a peak torque of 40 nm. Like any scooter, the CV-R5 uses a CVT transmission but is connected to a chain final drive.
The frame places the engine centrally, while the suspension setup includes an inverted fork and a monoshock with PTM (Pivoting Torque Management) system. The CV-R5 weighs 210 kg, with alloy wheels equipped with semi-knobby tires, sized 120/70-15 at the front and 150/70-14 at the rear.
