Doble Plaka amendment passed in Congress
Back in July of 2024, the Senate has approved in 3rd and final reading the Senate Bill (SB) 2555, which seeks to amend certain provisions of Republic Act 11235, otherwise known as the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act. For the motorcycle community, it is simply known as the “Doble Plaka Law”, owing to its front and rear plate requirement on motorcycles.
SB 2555 – which is principally authored by Sen. JV Ejercito – is just awaiting its Congressional bill counterpart before it goes to the Bicameral Conference Committee where both Senate and Congress versions will be reconciled before it will be passed to the President for signing into law.

Just recently, that version from Congress was approved in its 3rd and final reading. House Bill (HB) 11113, authored by Iloilo City Rep. Julienne “Jam-Jam” Baronda, seeks to address issues raised about provisions in RA 11235 that affect the safety of riders and imposition of excessive penalties.
Basically, HB 11113 wants to remove the large front motorcycle plate and also lowers the fine to “not more than PHP 20,000” for the intentional use of erased, tampered, imitated, covered number plate, from the current PHP 50,000 to PHP 100,000 including jail time.
In his social media post, Sen. Ejercito thanked Rep. Romeo Acop, Chairman of the Committee on Transportation – House of Representatives, for passing the amendments to the Doble Plaka Law.
Sen. Ejercito also assured that this “problem of the motorcycle community” will be over soon.
