Refund payment made on undelivered license plates, says Sec. Dizon
Today, Vince Dizon was officially sworn in by the President, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., as the 41st Secretary of Transportation. While the new secretary has a lot of issues already lined up on his first day of office, including mainstays like solving traffic, how to improve public transportation, and even a cashless policy on expressways which he already suspended, Dizon says that the Land Transportation Office (LTO) being unable to provide the license plates of motorcycles is unacceptable.
“Ito lang sasabihin ko: 2025 na, walang rason para ang plaka mo ay hindi mo makuha,” says Sec. Dizon.
(it’s already 2025 and there’s no reason for you to not receive your license plate.)
“Making a plate is not rocket science. It should not be…I’m really going to demand from our LTO to provide a better service for our motorists. It’s completely unacceptable that we have delays of [going] 10 years [on motorcycle plates],” added Sec. Dizon.
Due to this decade-long delay of license plate delivery by the LTO, Sec. Dizon said that if it was up to him, the LTO should return the money already paid by motorcycle riders.
“Para sa akin nga, dapat ibalik yung binayad ng mga nagmo-motor natin eh. Yung sa plaka, bayad yun eh. Isipin mo bayad [na] 10 years tapos wala ka pang plaka?”
(If it was up to me, the LTO should refund the money already paid by our motorcycle riders. For the license plate. That’s already paid. Just think about it, it’s already paid for 10 years and still no license plate?)
New factory needed?
To solve this license plate backlog on motorcycles, Sec. Dizon says that if the government needs to add another production facility, so be it.
“Kung kailangan mag-dagdag ng factory, mag-dagdag ng factory. Unacceptable yun [license plate backlog].”
(If we need to add another factory, then add another factory. The backlog in license plates is unacceptable.)
