Motorcycle rider charged and fined after trespassing on airport grounds
Earlier this month, a motorcycle rider illegally entered the Skyway Stage 3-NLEX off-ramp in Balintawak, Quezon City, which ended in tragedy. The underbone rider was not wearing any proper riding gear and was allegedly intoxicated, according to the authorities.
It seems that motorcycle adventurism driven by intoxication is becoming more common these days when a rider in Bicol was arrested for trespassing at the Bicol International Airport and almost did a joyride on the runway.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), a 29-year-old unauthorized man entered the ramp area of Bicol International Airport (BIA) while on-board a motorcycle and managed to proceed to the airside area near an aircraft parked at Bay 3. When accosted by airport security, the motorcycle rider, who was under the influence of alcohol, claimed that he was only looking for his friend inside the BIA’s premises.
The airport security immediately called assistance from PNP AVSEU to hand over the apprehended individual. With the assistance of BIA Police Stations, the required investigative procedures were conducted to file a case against him for violating Albay Ordinance No. 0059-2021.
Under Section 4(b) of the ordinance, it is stated that “No pointing of laser lights to aircraft and no person, vehicles or animals of any kind, without the permission from the Airport Office shall be allowed to enter the runway strip of the Bicol International Airport and other designated areas.”
A Municipal Trial Court in Daraga, Albay, found the accused trespasser guilty and imposed a fine of PHP 5,000.
“It is important indeed to show and let everybody knows that CAAP is serious in matters pertaining to security and safety.” CAAP Area V Manager Cynthia Tumanut said.
