Long Way Home streaming in May 9
As a motorcycle enthusiast, you might have heard or know about Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman from their Long Way Series. The first one, Long Way Round, took the duo on a 31,000-kilometer ‘round the world ride from London in England to New York City, USA in 2004. The series’ second installment in 2007, Long Way Down, took the duo on an adventure from John o’ Groats in Scotland to Cape Town in South Africa. During both of these adventures, McGregor and Boorman were onboard BMW’s R 1200 GS Adventure motorcycles.
On their third transcontinental adventure, Long Way Up, the duo took a 21,000-kilometer journey onboard Harley-Davidson’s LiveWire electric motorcycles from Ushuaia in Argentina—South America’s southernmost tip—to Los Angeles, California, USA.
This year, they are back on the road again for the fourth installment of the Long Way Series: Long Way Home.
Vintage Moto Guzzi and BMW
Unlike on their previous adventures, where they used brand-new motorcycles, it’s the opposite this time. For Long Way Home, both Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman will be on the saddle of vintage motorcycles.
If we’re not mistaken, Ewan is riding a 1974 Moto Guzzi Eldorado police bike, which was slightly modified for touring. Charley’s weapon of choice, on the other hand, is a BMW R 75/5, also slightly modified for touring. The R 75/5 was produced by BMW between 1969 to 1973.
Instead of taking the most direct route from Ewan’s home in Scotland to Charley’s in England, the two friends decide to take the “long way home”, visiting a total of 17 countries across Europe in the span of 9 weeks. As with the previous Long Way Series installments, this new series will see Ewan and Charley immerse themselves in the local cultures, meet people from different walks of life, and try their hand at unique and eclectic activities along the journey.
Joining Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman once again for this latest adventure are their longtime collaborators, David Alexanian and Russ Malkin. This trusted duo will be back in their roles, ensuring the familiar and high-quality production that fans have come to expect from the Long Way Series. Long Way Home is scheduled to begin streaming exclusively on Apple TV+ starting on May 9, 2025.
