MDPPA reports 11.6% sales growth in first quarter of 2026

Motorcycles, particularly small-displacement models, continue to be the preferred mode of transportation for many Filipinos, as the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA) posted a strong 11.6% sales growth in Q1 of 2026.

The MDPPA, composed of the Japanese “Big Four” manufacturers Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, and Suzuki, reported combined sales of 496,868 motorcycles from January to March this year, up from 445,047 units sold during the same period in 2025.

Scooters still Pinoy favorite

Scooters continued to dominate motorcycle sales, which the MDPPA attributed to their ease of use and practicality for daily commuting. Meanwhile, business models or “pantra” motorcycles also posted strong growth, driven by sustained demand from delivery services and small businesses that rely on them for day-to-day operations.

“As fuel prices continue to rise, motorcycles remain a practical option for Filipinos looking to manage their daily commute and expenses. For many, they provide a fuel-efficient and cost-conscious way to stay mobile, get to work on time, and keep their livelihoods running,” said MDPPA President, Erwin Estrada.

“In the coming months, we expect this shift to become even more pronounced as more riders look for reliable mobility solutions amid increasing costs,” he added.
