Another BMW executive joins KTM’s turnaround effort

If there’s one thing KTM’s new Indian masters are making clear, it’s that they’re not afraid to look outside Austria for help. More specifically, they’re looking toward Germany.

As KTM continues its restructuring under the leadership of Bajaj Mobility AG, the Austrian manufacturer has once again tapped BMW Motorrad for talent, appointing Christof Lischka as its new Chief Technology and Product Officer (CTPO).

The move comes just months after KTM recruited another BMW veteran, Stephan Reiff, as Chief Commercial Officer.

“Christof Lischka embodies what defines our company: deep technical expertise, strategic vision and a genuine passion for motorcycles… He understands development from both a management and a rider’s perspective,” said KTM CEO, Gottfried Neumeister.

Lischka is no ordinary hire. Before joining KTM, he spent almost 30 years at BMW Motorrad, most recently serving as Vice President of Development. Over the years, he held key roles in motorcycle development, vehicle dynamics, chassis engineering, braking systems, and product strategy. He was also involved in shaping BMW Motorrad’s modern lineup during a period that saw the German brand post record sales and strengthen its position in both the premium and adventure motorcycle segments.

His appointment is part of a broader shake-up following Bajaj’s financial rescue of KTM. After injecting hundreds of millions of euros into the struggling manufacturer, Bajaj has been steadily rebuilding the company’s leadership team while charting a path forward.

What’s particularly interesting is the pattern emerging in Mattighofen. Rather than relying solely on existing KTM personnel, Bajaj appears to be assembling a team with deep BMW roots. Earlier this year, KTM brought in Stephan Reiff from BMW Motorrad’s global sales and marketing division. Reiff previously oversaw worldwide sales, marketing, aftersales operations, and dealer network activities. During his tenure, BMW Motorrad surpassed EUR 3 billion in annual revenue.

With both BMW’s former sales chief and former development boss now occupying key positions inside KTM, the company’s recovery effort is beginning to take on a distinctly German influence.
