LTFRB chairman confirms Grab's inclusion in the MC Taxi Pilot Study
Motorcycle Taxis have become a part of the daily commute of many Filipinos ever since its inception in 2019, through the MC Taxi Pilot Study.
Now, there will be another MC Taxi player that will enter the study: Grab Philippines.
Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) chairman, Teofilo Guadiz III, confirmed Grab’s inclusion in the Pilot Study, through a letter addressed to the company’s head of mobility Edward Joseph dela Vega.
Guadiz, however, clarified that Grab cannot start its MC Taxi operations until the MC Taxi Pilot Study Technical Working Group (TWG) gives its go signal.
“Concerning the actual activation of any MC Taxi app or service on the Grab app, this agency confirms that Grab is yet to receive full authorization from the MC Taxi TWG,” said Guadiz.
Among the other requirements set by the LTFRB to Grab are the conduct of an on-site visit of its headquarters from the agency and its training facility. The LTFRB initially granted Grab to operate within the National Capital Region (NCR) with 2,000 motorcycle riders.
“Rest assured, the LTFRB will continue to work closely with all stakeholders in the industry to maintain fair competition in this fast-growing sector,” added Guadiz.
In a separate statement, Grab Philippines’ chief operating officer, Ronald Roda, said that the MC Taxi sector has so much potential for creating jobs for many Filipinos and improving transportation, which can only be realized with the legalization of this sector.
