LTO reports 445 license suspensions and revocations since October 2025
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has stepped up enforcement of traffic laws, issuing a surge of Show Cause Orders (SCOs) against motorists who violate road rules.
From January 1 to February 21, 2026, the agency issued a total of 169 directives related to traffic violations, including 128 SCOs, one subpoena, and 40 formal invitations. During the same period, 125 driver’s licenses were suspended and 76 were revoked.
Earlier, between October and December 31, 2025, the LTO also suspended 80 licenses and revoked 164, bringing the total number of penalized drivers to 445 since LTO Chief Asec. Markus Lacanilao assumed office. Suspended motorists are barred from driving for at least 90 days, while those whose licenses were revoked face longer-term or permanent disqualification.

So, what offenses are putting drivers off the road? According to LTO Executive Director Atty. Martin Ontog, Reckless Driving remains the leading cause of suspensions and revocations, followed closely by Disregarding Traffic Signs.
For more serious cases, particularly road rage incidents, the LTO has declared violators “Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle,” a designation that carries the harshest penalties, including permanent license revocation.
Message to motorists
The crackdown sends a clear message: the LTO is serious about road safety and will not hesitate to remove drivers who believe the rules can be bent or do not apply to them.
As the agency frequently reminds the public, “driving is a privilege, not a right,” and this privilege can be revoked when a motorist proves unfit to follow the law.
