LTO reports huge collection from traffic violators from all over the country
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has recently announced that it is on target with its collection efforts for 2024, and to date, it has already collected PHP 986.5 million from fines and penalties from traffic violators from all over the country.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II said the revenue collection from fines and penalties is an offshoot of the instruction of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime J. Bautista to strictly implement traffic laws to ensure the safety of all road users.
“The almost PHP 1 billion collection from fines and penalties alone is a result of the hard work of our law enforcers and other personnel on the ground. We cannot achieve this without their dedication and commitment to ensure road safety,” said Mendoza.
Based on the LTO data, a total of 330,073 motorists were apprehended nationwide from January 1 to June 30 this year for various offenses, as a result of the order of Mendoza to intensify road safety measures and ensure road courtesy and discipline.
Not all of those apprehended already settled the fines and penalties but based on the LTO data, a total of PHP 986.5 million were already collected from January 1 to June 30 this year.
“We expect to see an increase in collection as soon as these penalties are settled by traffic violators. We are asking them to settle on time because failure to do so would only result in the payment of higher fines and penalties. In short, the penalty would be bigger,” added Mendoza.
The LTO’s revenue collection target for 2024 is P33 billion and Mendoza is confident that it is achievable since from January 1 to May 30 this year, the LTO has already recorded a PHP 17.9 billion collection which is 34% higher for the same period in 2023.
Aside from fines and penalties, other revenue sources of the LTO include motor vehicle user charges and driver’s license transactions.
