MC plates already at dealers, but owners are unable to be contacted
Motorcycle riders have been bearing the problem with their motorcycle license plates for almost a decade now. In fact, just ride in the busy streets of Metro Manila and you’ll notice that there are still a lot of motorcycles with their temporary plates (MV file number) attached.
But, if you bought your motorcycle between January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2019, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) says that your unit’s license plate is already available for claiming at the dealer where you purchased your motorcycle.
During an interview with Saksi sa Dobol B, LTO Assistant Secretary, Atty. Vigor Mendoza II said that the agency is already done stamping these license plates and can be claimed by motorcycle owners at their dealers. The problem is, according to Mendoza, many of these owners can no longer be reached by dealers due to (possible) new phone numbers, change of address, etc.

“Yung 2018-2019 plates, hindi na po bumabalik yung mga may-ari ng mga motorsiklo. Nandiyan na po yung mga plaka sa mga dealer, they’ve been trying to communicate with the [motorcycle owners], pero hindi na po nagreresponse sa kanila,” said Mendoza.
“Either napalitan na po yung kanilang cellphone number or nag-change address. Or, baka naman nalipat na nila yung motorsiklo sa ibang tao kaya hindi na nagre-response,” added Mendoza.
Plate backlog down to 7.5 million
During the course of the interview, Asec. Mendoza proudly announced that due to the hardworking men and women of LTO, the backlog on motorcycle license plates has already been reduced to half, or about 7.5 million from 13 million in 2023 (and 10.4 million in January 2024).
Mendoza said that currently, LTO’s plate stamping facility in Quezon City is capable of producing up to 800,000 motorcycle license plates per month, which could go up to 1,000,000 license plates once one of the stamping machines is fixed.
