Road rage rider gets lifetime driving ban
Earlier this month, another road rage incident went viral, this time involving a motorcycle rider in Sampaloc, Manila. In the video circulating online, a motorcyclist was traveling along a one-way street in Sampaloc, Manila, when he encountered another rider and his pillion passenger counterflowing in the middle of the road.
The situation nearly ended in a collision after the counterflowing rider allegedly refused to give way. Then, the counterflowing rider made a U-turn, chased the other motorcyclist, and caught up with him at the next intersection.
Video footage later showed the victim being threatened and attacked with a helmet.
The incident quickly drew the attention of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), which has since handed down one of its harshest penalties.
Today, the LTO announced that it had revoked the driver’s license of the rider involved in the assault and imposed a lifetime ban on him from ever obtaining another driver’s license.
“The road is no place for violence and intimidation. Every license holder is expected to demonstrate discipline, respect, and accountability at all times,” said LTO Chief, Markus Lacanilao.
In its resolution, the LTO cited multiple violations of existing road laws and regulations, leading to the revocation of the rider’s driving privileges and his permanent disqualification from securing a new license.
The case is the latest in a series of enforcement actions taken by the agency against motorists involved in dangerous and aggressive behavior on public roads. The LTO also reminded motorists to keep their emotions in check and exercise respect toward fellow road users.
The agency also said that violence has no place in traffic disputes and warned that motorists who endanger others can expect swift action and stiff penalties.
