LTO shuts down 12 dealers, suspends 39 over delayed registration complaints

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has begun imposing penalties on motorcycle and vehicle dealers found to have violated the agency’s rules on the registration of newly sold vehicles, with some establishments losing their accreditation for an entire year.

The sanctions were announced by LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao, during the agency’s latest “Kwentuhan with the LTO Chief” yesterday.

The move follows last month’s issuance of Show Cause Orders (SCOs) against more than 100 accredited dealers that were accused of failing to process the initial registration of new vehicles and release their corresponding Official Receipts (ORs), Certificates of Registration (CRs), and license plates within the prescribed period.

After resolving the cases, the LTO handed down three levels of penalties.

A total of 37 dealers were ordered to pay fines, while 39 dealers received a PHP 500,000 fine and a six-month suspension of their accreditation. The harshest penalty was imposed on 12 dealers, whose accreditation was revoked and who were blacklisted from LTO accreditation for one year.

Lacanilao said the agency intends to continue pursuing dealers that fail to comply with LTO regulations.

“The LTO's action does not end with the issuance of Show Cause Orders against accredited dealers who fail to fulfill their obligations. We will not allow their negligence to continue causing inconvenience and hardship to motorists. Dealers who persist in violating LTO regulations will face stiffer penalties, including the suspension of their operations.”

The LTO added that it will continue monitoring accredited dealers to ensure the timely processing of ORs, CRs, and license plates for newly registered vehicles. Motorists who encounter similar issues may submit complaints through the Ireport mo kay LTO Chief Facebook page or the agency’s other official complaint channels.
