Bulacan illegal drag racers now banned from obtaining driver's licenses
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has been very active in ridding the roads of unruly motorists. In fact, during the past six months alone, the agency has issued 2,008 Show Cause Orders (SCOs) to reckless drivers and riders, resulting in the revocation of 420 drivers' licenses.
Now, the agency announced that it recommended that 19 individuals, including several minors, be permanently disqualified from obtaining a driver’s license. This decisive action follows their participation in an illegal motorcycle drag race and exhibition in Bulacan earlier this month.
The LTO’s investigation was initiated after complaints led the PNP-Highway Patrol Group to conduct an operation in San Rafael, Bulacan, where a bypass road was being used for unauthorized motorcycle races and exhibitions. The operation resulted in the arrest of several adults and the temporary custody of 12 minors, some as young as seven years old.
During the subsequent hearing, six of the adults and nine minors admitted to their involvement in the unlawful event. The parents of the minors who were apprehended explained they had permitted their children to operate the motorcycles, claiming the vehicles were their family’s only means of transportation.
The LTO’s inquiry also revealed that none of the individuals involved in the incident possessed a valid driver’s license. It was also confirmed that the motorcycles they were operating were unregistered and lacked proper license plates.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II, stated that the adults and minors will definitely face serious charges, including driving without a license, failing to wear a protective helmet, and operating an unregistered vehicle.
The case has now been officially submitted for resolution, with Mendoza expressing his hope that these recommended disqualifications will serve as a strong message to the public about the importance of adhering to road safety rules and regulations.
