LTO announces 2024 campaign highlights
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced its 2024 campaign highlights in law enforcement, as well as revenue collection.
According to LTO, 639,323 motorists were apprehended last year for various traffic violations. This means a 20.75% increase compared to 2023 (529,439 apprehensions). The LTO-CALABARZON (Region IV-A) has the most number of apprehended drivers with 109,159, followed by Cagayan Valley Region with 70,855.
LTO-CALABARZON also registered a 144.11% increase in the number of apprehensions for 2024 (44,717 apprehended motorists in 2023) followed by LTO-MIMAROPA (Region IV-B) with 120.76% increase, (14,079 apprehended motorists in 2023 to 31,081 apprehensions in 2024).
Meanwhile, a total of 29,709 vehicles were impounded by the agency due to various registration and compliance violations in 2024.
Also in 2024, a total of 984 drivers were stripped off of their driving privileges due to the severity of their traffic violations. LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II said those revoked also include the driver’s license of errant motor vehicle drivers in viral videos that were either monitored by the agency’s social media team, or reported by netizens to the LTO.
“We have a total of 984 driver’s licenses revoked in 2024. All of it went through the correct due process,” said Mendoza.
Citing LTO data, Mendoza said a total of 736 driver’s licenses were revoked for violations of Republic Act 10586 (Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act) which includes driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs/substance, and refusal to subject oneself to mandatory alcohol test during road crash, while 130 driver’s licenses were revoked for violation of RA 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, particularly due to questionable ways of obtaining driver’s licenses.
On the other hand, 94 driver’s licenses were also revoked for violation of the provisions of RA 10930, the law that extended the validity of driver’s license, which include having double licenses, falsification of documents and cheating during examinations.
There’s also 24 driver’s licenses that were revoked over viral videos on social media and other complaints lodged before the LTO Central Office.
On the other hand, the LTO has reported that it collected over PHP 32 billion in revenues in 2024 following the implementation of necessary reforms and the hard work and cooperation of all its personnel, particularly those on the frontlines.
Though PHP 11 billion short of the initial 2024 revenue target (announced January 18, 2024), the agency said that the PHP 32,271,213,444.69 collected last year is 8.8% higher compared to the 2023 collection of PHP 29,661,161,162.07.
