LTO moves to summon BOSS Ironman organizers amid crashes, traffic violations
The BOSS Ironman Motorcycle Challenge (BIMC) returned this year after nearly two years of hiatus, with its latest edition held in Mindanao. However, as with previous BIMC events, the event has once again been marred by controversy over road safety concerns, drawing the attention and ire of the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
According to the Land Transportation Office (LTO), a Show Cause Order (SCO) will be issued to the BMW Owners Society of Saferiders (BOSS), the organizer of BIMC, requiring them to explain why they should not be held liable for multiple reported road crashes (including a fatal road crash) and the apparent disregard of traffic laws by several participants—many of which were documented in photos and videos.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao, said the organizers must answer for these incidents, stressing that lives were put at risk. He added that the agency will require BOSS to submit a list of participants involved in traffic violations, including overspeeding, the use of unauthorized sirens and blinkers (wang-wang), and running on red lights, among others.
Lacanilao further said that the SCO is expected to be issued within the day.
