Show Cause Order issued by LTO to vlogger
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued on Thursday, Sept. 12, a Show Cause Order (SCO) against a rider who deliberately entered the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) despite knowing that his motorcycle is not allowed under the existing rules.
Based on the existing rule, motorcycles under 400cc are strictly prohibited at the expressway but in this case, the motorcycle rider was aware that his motorcycle is only 250cc and even said in the vlog that he would test if he would be allowed to enter the expressway.
The rider uploaded his illegal action on social media, which later went viral as netizens called him out for blatantly disregarding the law. Some of the netizens even appealed to the LTO to take action.
After learning of the incident, LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II said he immediately ordered an investigation which led to the issuance of the LTO signed by Renante Melitante, head of the LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division.
Assec Mendoza said what the vlogger did was not only irresponsible but also dangerous since it may lead to endangering not only his life but also of other motorists traversing the expressway, which is the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).
“Ito ay maliwanag na pambabastos sa rules and regulations ng expressways na ginawa naman para sa kaligtasan hindi lamang ng motorcycle riders kung hindi pati na rin ang iba pang motorista na gumagamit ng expressways,” said Mendoza.
“Ang kahambugan na ipinakita ng rider na ito ay isang pagpapatunay ng kawalan ng disiplina. This will now be the subject of the investigation on whether or not he will still enjoy the privilege of being issued with a driver’s license,” he added.
In the SCO, the rider was identified to be from Quezon City and the video he uploaded is now the piece of evidence that the LTO has in the conduct of the probe.
“As the identified Rider and Registered Owner of the identified Motorcycle, you are directed to show cause in writing why you should not be administratively charged for Disregarding Traffic Sign, Reckless Driving, and why your driver's license should not be suspended or revoked for being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle in connection with the above-stated matter,” the SCO reads.
The rider was also ordered to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division, Law Enforcement Service on Sept. 16 and bring all the registration documents of the subject motor vehicle.
“Failure to appear and submit your written answer will compel this Office to resolve the matter based on the available evidence on record,” added the LTO.
The LTO also placed the driver’s license and Kawasaki 250 bearing Plate No. 428UDE under alarm, pending the result of the investigation.
