New KTM distributor in the PH named
Rumors about Ayala Corporation closing its KTM distribution (Adventure Cycle Philippines, Inc., a.k.a. KTM PH) and manufacturing business (KTM Asia Motorcycle Manufacturing, Inc. - KAMMI) has been lingering for some time now. To shed some light on the matter, MotoPinas.com spoke with Dino Santos (via messenger) back in January 2024. He has assured that the manufacturing business was a key business for Ayala and has no plans to shut it down. Santos is the top man for both ACPI and KAMMI at the time.
Just recently, KTM AG and ACPI announced that the distribution business of the Austrian brand here in the country will now be handled by a new company – Lucky MAPI.
“Please be advised that KTM AG has selected Lucky MAPI as the new exclusive distributor of KTM and Husqvarna motorcycles and products in the Philippines, replacing Adventure Cycle Philippines, Inc. (ACPI) which will cease its operations as KTM and Husqvarna distributor on September 30, 2024. ACPI had mutually agreed with KTM AG to pre-terminate the Importer Agreements,” said ACPI through its official social media page.
Lucky MAPI
Lucky MAPI is no stranger to the business, as it is a company under the Borromeo Motoring Group – the same powerhouse behind MotorAce, and several automotive, finance and real estate companies.
So we had a small chat with Daniel Abelarde, one of our friends and Lucky MAPI executive, to tell us more about their plans with the "new and improved" KTM PH.
According to Abelarde, the number one priority is customer. He told MotoPinas.com that there are about 7,000 KTM customers, and Lucky MAPI would want to make them “7,000 happy customers.”
That said, Lucky MAPI will be more active in engaging with KTM customers, so expect KTM to be more involved in the motorcycle community in the months to come. Also, Lucky MAPI will be focusing on improving KTM’s after-sales service, bringing to Filipinos world-class KTM service found abroad and elsewhere. This includes ensuring genuine KTM parts are always available, and customers would no longer need to buy from the internet or abroad.
KTM motorcycles have always been known throughout as off-road biased machines. As such, Lucky MAPI also plans to focus on its off-road products, which may include sales and aftersales of GASGAS products. There will also be a renewed focus on adventure bike riding lessons and experiences for customers.
When asked about pricing, Abelarde told MotoPinas.com that they are “willing to cut some margins” to make the pricing of KTM products more competitive for the PH market.
Lucky MAPI, who also have the exclusive Philippine distribution rights to Husqvarna, WP Suspension and GASGAS, will officially begin its KTM PH operations starting October 1, 2024.
