2025 Italian GP conquered by Marc Márquez and Ducati
Marc Márquez delivered a masterful performance at the Brembo Grand Prix of Italy, securing victory for the Ducati Lenovo Team at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello.
This win marks Márquez’s 93rd career MotoGP victory across all classes. His teammate, Francesco Bagnaia, finished in 4th place, contributing to an all-Ducati top four alongside Alex Márquez (Gresini Racing Team) in 2nd and Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Racing Team) in 3rd.
“At the start of the race, I tried to manage tire wear so I wouldn’t compromise things too early. Every time I tried to control the situation, Pecco came back on the attack. He was braking very hard and very late, while I was focusing more on corner speed. When Alex took the lead, I knew it was time to start pushing, because he had a really strong pace. Track conditions were quite tricky today, and maintaining a very fast rhythm was risky. If anyone had closed the gap, plan B was simply to bring the bike home,” said the 6-time MotoGP champion, Marc Márquez.
The race saw a dynamic start with intense position changes involving Bagnaia and Alex Márquez. Marc Márquez seized the lead on lap nine and skillfully managed his pace to the chequered flag. Bagnaia initially showed strong form, but a near-crash on lap five cost him the leading position. In the final stages, Fabio Di Giannantonio overtook Bagnaia for third.
Following the ninth Grand Prix of the season, Marc Márquez has extended his championship lead to 270 points, now holding a 40-point advantage over brother Alex Márquez. Francesco Bagnaia currently sits in third place overall, 110 points behind his teammate. The Ducati Lenovo Team maintains its lead in the teams’ standings with 430 points, while Ducati continues to dominate the manufacturers’ standings with 319 points.
The Ducati Lenovo Team is set to continue the season at the TT Circuit Assen for the tenth Grand Prix of the 2025 season.
