Open face helmet only ordinance soon in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
If you’re a motorcycle rider, you know that a full-face helmet offers the best kind of protection of any helmet kind because it has full coverage of your head and face. One town in Mindoro, however, wants to impose a rule on motorcycle riders that only allows open-face helmets or face penalty.
Just recently, the Town Council of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, has discussed in a public hearing, the proposed ordinance titled “An Ordinance Imposing Open Face Helmet and Prohibiting Wearing of Face Bonnets and Masks Covering the Face of Drivers and Backriders to Hide Face for Identification within the Jurisdiction of the Municipality of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro and Imposing Penalties in Violation Thereof”.
To put it simply, whether you’re a resident or a visitor of San Jose, you are not allowed to wear a full-face helmet, face bonnets, and masks that will cover your face.
According to Councilor Jimmy Holgado, the proposed ordinance sponsor, it seeks to improve the town’s security and deter crime perpetrated by riding-in-tandem criminals. Coun. Holgado is also the town’s Committee Chairperson on Transportation and Utilities and on Peace and Order.
The public hearing was also attended by delegates from the Land Transportation Office (LTO), PNP Highway Patrol Group, San Jose Municipal Police Station, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Barangay Officials, motorcycle riders, and motorists, according to San Jose Public Information Office.
The town council has recommended the proposed ordinance for a second reading at the next plenary session.
