Up to 3 weeks to repair damaged bridge says NLEX Corporation
A few nights ago, a truck carrying a large cargo exceeded the vertical clearance of the Marilao Interchange bridge, resulting in damage that requires extensive repairs and major traffic delays. According to NLEX Corporation, these repairs requiring the closure of 2 lanes may last up to 3 weeks.
“It will take between two to three weeks to complete the restoration,” says NLEX senior manager for traffic operations, Robin Ignacio.
NLEX, DPWH, LGU pointing fingers
Ignacio also stated that NLEX had previously worked with the the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the local government unit (LGU) of Marilao to address the issue of the reduced vertical clearance of the bridge due to years of asphalt overlays. However, both the DPWH and the Marilao LGU denied responsibility for the Marilao Interchange Bridge.
“We have been trying to coordinate with DPWH years ago, but they just pointed their finger at the LGU. That’s why we have also tried to coordinate with the LGU but they don’t want to have jurisdiction [over Marilao Interchange Bridge],” he added.
Motorists are advised to take alternate routes to avoid being stuck in the traffic caused by this incident.
