New BMW R 1300 GS now in the PH, available in January 2024
Yesterday, BMW Motorrad Philippines introduced to the Filipino riding community the newest member of its adventure bike family: the new R 1300 GS.
The GS – which stands for Gelände/Straße (German: off-road/road) effectively started the adventure bike segment with BMW’s introduction of the R 80 GS in 1980.
Specs

According to BMW, the new R 1300 GS is not a redesign of the GS, but rather a revolution of Berlin’s highly successful model. For instance, the 1,300cc boxer engine was made more compact by putting the gearbox underneath the engine, thus making the engine cylinder heads noticeably higher from the ground vs. the R 1250 GS.
Engine: 1,300 cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC with ShiftCam technology
Power: 146 Ps @ 7,750 rpm
Torque: 149 Nm @ 6,500 rpm
Transmission: 6-speed, wet clutch
Top speed: over 200 km/h
Frame: 2-part frame with the engine as a stressed member
Suspension travel front/rear: 190 mm/200 mm
Wheelbase: 1,518 mm
Wheel size front/rear: 120/70 R19/170/60 R17
Seat height: 850 mm
Fuel tank capacity: 19 liters
Weight, ready to ride: 237 kg

Additionally, BMW Motorrad introduces some features that are new to the GS line of adventure bikes. For example, the new R 1300 GS now features an Adaptive Ride Control system that lowers the seat height a few millimeters when at a stop. This is a new feature that is welcome to a lot of motorcycle riders who are a bit intimidated by an adventure bike’s often tall seat height.
Also, a first in the GS family, the new R 1300 GS boasts a new safety feature that uses radar to detect vehicles on the front, and rear, as well as vehicles on the rider’s blind spots on the left and right. On the more obvious side of things, BMW now opted for a "matrix" LED headlight that resembles an "X" as opposed to its traditional asymmetrical headlights.
A smartphone charging compartment is also placed at the top of the fuel tank, near the filler cap.
