Vyrus of Italy creates futuristic Aylen 988 bruiser
What happens when you cross a Tron Lightcycle with a TIE Silencer (Kylo Ren’s ship) from Star Wars? The result would probably look something like the Vyrus Aylen 988. Unlike the Lightcycle or TIE Silencer, you can actually buy the Vyrus Aylen 988.
Vyrus is an Italian motorcycle builder known for making some very unique and futuristic-looking motorcycles in very limited numbers. The Aylen 988 is their latest creation, following their street fighter and super sport bike, both sporting very angular and unconventional styling.
Besides the out-of-this-world looks, another Vyrus trademark is the use of a front hub-centered steering swingarm setup. It’s not the first time something like that has been used, but due to the mixed feedback from riders, cost and complexity, few have adopted it for mass production. Nonetheless, with the Vyrus’ looks, it certainly fits. The rear is just as unusual, using a very chunky single-sided swingarm. What’s out-of-the-ordinary is that the monoshock is mounted sideways.
Powering the Aylen is a 1298cc L-twin Ducati Superquadro from a 1299 Panigale that can produce 202-horsepower. It’s paired with a 6-speed transmission with a wet clutch that drives the fat 200 mm rear wheels via a chain drive.
All this is held together by a magnesium double omega design combined with a self-supporting composite body. Rather than the usual aluminum or titanium, the exhaust tips are carbon fiber and form part of the rear fender.
Finally, the rider himself gets to rest his derriere on a tan alcantara leather seat, that almost looks like it’s floating over the rear swingarm. For those curious, even the 17-inch wheels are made of carbon fiber.
Vyrus has not released any info on its performance, weight, or even price. Some experts suggest however that it may hover around the US$90,000 (PhP 4.5M), not including shipping, taxes, or registration.
