RR500S sportbike unveiled by VOGE
The motorcycle landscape has dramatically transformed over the past 15 years. Previously, local consumers had access to only a handful of models from a limited number of manufacturers, with gray imports from Japan, the U.S., and Europe being the only other options, and typically cost more than an arm and a leg.
Now, Chinese manufacturers have significantly leveled the playing field, introducing a wide spectrum of models that challenge established brands. This competition has prompted established brands to respond with more competitively priced models for the broader market.
VOGE, the ‘upscale’ brand under Loncin, has thrown its hat into the ring with the new RR500S sportbike, a clear move to secure a substantial portion of the thriving 500cc motorcycle market.
ZX-4R > RR500S
The VOGE RR500S is powered by a 475cc, liquid-cooled inline-4 cylinder powerplant that is claimed to be capable of producing up to 74 PS and can rev up to 14,000 rpm. In comparison, Kawasaki’s smaller 399cc ZX-4R can generate up to 77 PS. While it is not much, this disparity suggests that Chinese manufacturers may still be refining their techniques for maximizing engine output from small engines, particularly on motorcycles.
The RR500S’s other features include Nissin calipers, two-channel ABS, traction control, non-adjustable front suspension, preload-adjustable rear suspension, TFT screen, and LED lighting, which are competent but do not particularly evoke a “wow factor.”
Unlike many 500cc motorcycles that share similar basic features, this model offers a standout distinction: a switchable exhaust valve. In layman’s terms, a single button allows riders to instantly change the exhaust sound from a standard “stock” tone to a more aggressive “open” pipe roar.
Philippine availability and pricing will be announced soon, with current estimates placing the price between PHP 230,000 and PHP 270,000.
