MotoGP kicks off global e-Sport 2024
Are you an aspiring MotoGP rider but doesn’t have what it takes to be a racer? Sure, you may have the talent, but the road to MotoGP is expensive, and saying expensive is an understatement.
But don’t worry, you can actually “race” in MotoGP through its Global e-Sport.
MotoGP Global e-Sport
The MotoGP Global e-Sport is what it says: it is MotoGP racing done on Sony PlayStation, Xbox and PC platforms. Selection is done in a Pro Draft based in 3 Online Challenges. The players who have more points after the last challenge will be classified for the Draft Selection. In total, will be will be classified 23 gamers (15 from Europe and 8 from the rest of the world).
Then, 12 gamers will be selected for the MotoGP Teams and will race in the Global Series, which is a 3 Sprint and 6 Race championship held across 3 different Rounds.
1st Round, 3 races
Tomorrow (Manila time) marks the first round of the 2024 MotoGP Global e-Sport and teams will be racing in Pertamina Mandalika Circuit in Indonesia for the first Sprint before heading to the Mobiltiy Resort Motegi in Japan and Australia’s Phillip Island for race one and race two.
Pertamina Mandalika Circuit
The Indonesian venue is well known for being fast and flowing, as well as exceptionally tricky to perform overtaking moves on. Its spectacular seaside setting is a fitting backdrop to Sectors 1 and 2, which feature the fabulous sequence of corners, from Turns 6 to 9.
MotoGP has only been coming to this track since 2022, but it’s already thrown up numerous memorable moments, such as Miguel Oliveira’s brilliant wet weather win in 2022, and Jorge Martin’s dramatic crash out of the lead in 2023.
Mobility Resort Motegi
The Japanese venue two hours north of Tokyo has been a regular on the MotoGP calendar since 1999. Its numerous slow speed hairpins are its signature, which place a microscope on a gamer’s braking capabilities, as well as their accelerating strengths.
While not known for producing exceptional racing, the Mobility Resort Motegi has been the scene of numerous moments of MotoGP history, such as Casey Stoner and Ducati’s maiden MotoGP World Championship triumph in 2007, as well as Marc Marquez’s title triumphs in 2014, 2016 and 2018.
Phillip Island
There isn’t another track in the world like Phillip Island. Its glorious collection of high-speed bends put the emphasis on high corner speed and stability when changing direction. Its Turn 1, Turn 3 and final double left hander are among the most challenging on the entire MotoGP calendar.
Some of MotoGP’s best ever races have taken place on Australian soil. Marc Marquez’s epic 2015 win, Alex Rins’ fabulous triumph in 2022 and Johann Zarco’s maiden MotoGP victory last year all rank among the finest races in the recent era of motorcycle racing’s premier class. This fast layout guarantees epic racing.
