Wildcard rider Jacq Buncio this coming PSBK race weekend

Jacq Buncio is set to return to the track as a wildcard rider in the highly anticipated Philippine Superbike Championship (PSBK), showcasing her commitment to empowering women in motorsports. Driven by her late brother’s legacy as the fastest man on two wheels, Jacq aims to continue the family tradition while paving the way for female riders.

Having taken a brief hiatus from racing at the start of the 2024 season, Jacq was inspired to rejoin the sport after an unexpected invitation to a track day by Triumph Motorcycles Philippines. It was during this event that she discovered her passion for the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR, leading to her wildcard entry in PSBK. “Sometimes, life’s detours lead us exactly where we’re meant to be,” she shared.

Jacq will race on October 12-13, 2024, at the iconic Clark International Speedway, a venue known for its challenging layout and vibrant motorsport community. Racing in the PSBK has long been a dream for Jacq. Her journey began in 2017 when she competed in the Pirelli Championships, and she quickly established herself as a formidable competitor, winning the Rookie Overall Champion title in 2018. “Returning to PSBK excites me. Racing alongside the country's best truly ignites my passion,” she stated.

Jacq will compete on the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR, a 3-cylinder machine that she believes will stand its ground against 4-cylinder rivals. “The handling suits my riding style perfectly, and the power delivery feels natural to me,” she explained, expressing her confidence in the bike's performance.

With unwavering support from her parents, who initially had reservations about her racing career, Jacq credits them as her greatest motivators. “Their love, belief, and encouragement are the foundation of who I am as a racer today,” she said.

As a seasoned competitor, Jacq emphasizes the importance of mental preparation, especially in the high-stakes environment of the PSBK. “Mental strength can make or break performance,” she noted, sharing that she has been working hard to regain her peak form through intensive training.

Jacq is also passionate about empowering women in motorsports. “I want to leave a legacy that reflects my commitment to growing female participation in this sport,” she stated. “With the rise of female riders, I hope to show that women can compete at the highest level.”

Her advice for aspiring female racers is simple: “If you truly enjoy what you're doing, keep going. Pursue your dreams with confidence.” Jacq hopes to dismantle stereotypes surrounding women in racing, proving that they are serious competitors in the industry.

As she prepares for this pivotal race, Jacq Buncio is more than just a competitor; she is a trailblazer, advocating for inclusivity and representation for women in motorsports.
