Marc Márquez to miss Aussie and Malay GP due to injury
Fresh from clinching the 2025 MotoGP World Championship, Marc Márquez will miss the upcoming Australian and Malaysian Grand Prix races after sustaining a shoulder injury during the Indonesian round.
The Ducati Lenovo Team rider arrived in Spain and immediately proceeded to the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid for medical evaluation. Examinations revealed a fracture at the base of the coracoid process and a ligament injury to his right shoulder. Doctors confirmed that the injuries are unrelated to previous issues and that no significant bone displacement was detected.
“Fortunately, the injury isn’t serious, but it’s important to respect the recovery timeline,” Márquez said. “My goal is to be back before the end of the season, but without rushing things beyond the doctors’ recommendations. Both my personal and the team’s main goals have been achieved, so now the priority is to recover properly and get back to 100%,” said the reigning MotoGP champion.
The medical team, led by Dr. Samuel Antuña and Dr. Ignacio Roger de Oña, recommended a conservative treatment plan involving rest and immobilization to allow full healing and clinical consolidation of the fracture. As a result, Márquez has been ruled out of the next two races, marking an early end to his 2025 season.
The Spanish rider won his 7th MotoGP title following a hard-fought second-place finish at the Motul Grand Prix of Japan, sealing an extraordinary comeback, 6 long years after his last world title.
