Calamities prompt LTO to extend license, registration validity until Oct. 15
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced the extension of the validity of motor vehicle registrations and driver’s licenses that expired on September 30, following the President’s directive to assist those affected by recent calamities.
According to LTO, this extension seeks to ease the burden on motorists impacted by the series of typhoons and the recent earthquake in Cebu.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary, Atty. Vigor Mendoza II, said he has already issued a memorandum to all Regional Directors and District Office heads to implement the extension. The directive says that the validity of registrations and licenses is extended until October 15, and no penalties will be imposed on affected vehicle owners and license holders.
“This is in consideration of the cancellations of government work caused by heavy rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon and Typhoons Nando, Opong, and Paulo, and the devastating earthquake that struck Cebu,” said Mendoza.
“A lot of our kababayans were affected, and this was the LTO’s way of providing assistance to the affected clients in line with President Marcos’ directive,” he added.
Mendoza also announced that the 15-day period for the settlement of Traffic Apprehension Cases, which took effect on September 26, has likewise been extended until October 15.
