2026 Honda Monkey unveiled as PH availability remains unconfirmed

The 2026 Honda Monkey 125 has been unveiled in Europe, continuing the legacy of Honda’s iconic mini motorcycle. With a Euro 5+ compliant 124 cc air-cooled engine, five-speed gearbox, USD forks, 12-inch wheels, and IMU-controlled ABS, the Monkey combines modern engineering with retro charm. Full LED lighting, a neat LCD dash, and new paint options complete the updates for the 26YM model.

Originally launched in 1961 as a compact, playful bike for an amusement park in Tokyo, the Monkey quickly gained a following for its fun, approachable design and ease of use. By the late 1970s, it had become a favorite among recreational vehicle owners, offering simple, low-skill operation and unmatched portability. The 2018 revival brought the Monkey into the 21st century with a 125 cc engine, suspension refinements, and styling updates, while the 25YM and 26YM models ensured Euro 5+ compliance and added new color schemes to keep the “smile factor” high.

The Monkey 125’s small size, agile handling, and cheerful aesthetics have made it a hit across Europe and other international markets, complemented by accessories such as a rear carrier, side bag support, immobilizer alarm, USB socket, and heated grips. Despite its global popularity, Honda Philippines has yet to include the Monkey 125 in its local lineup.

The reasons behind this absence remain unannounced, leaving room for speculation. Could it be market demand favoring scooters and underbones, regulatory compliance costs, import duties, or simply strategic allocation of limited model slots? Honda Philippines continues to focus on models tailored for daily mobility, but for now, the question of why the Monkey 125 is missing from Philippine roads remains up to the readers to answer.
