Haojue-made V-Strom 160 and DR160 debuts at this year’s Makina
Suzuki Motorcycles Philippines took the opening number of this year’s Makina Moto Expo with the launch of their two new models: the V-Strom 160 and the DR160, which will be sold at PHP 146,000 and PHP 129,000, respectively.
Roots from Haojue
Suzuki Motor Corporation and Chinese manufacturer, Haojue Motorcycle, have maintained a long-running collaboration spanning more than three decades, producing a range of small-displacement motorcycles for global markets.
Among the outcomes of this partnership are the Suzuki V-Strom 160 and Suzuki DR160, both widely regarded as rebadged versions of the Haojue DL160 originally developed for the Latin American market.
Both models are powered by a 162cc air-cooled, four-stroke engine producing around 15 PS of power at 8,000 rpm and 14 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The platform is capable of reaching a top speed of approximately 130 km/h under ideal riding conditions.
Styled as a “baby V-Strom,” the V-Strom 160 carries design cues from its larger adventure-touring siblings, featuring a semi-adventure stance suited for urban and light touring use. Standard equipment includes full LED lighting, alloy wheels, front and rear disc brakes, KYB suspension components, a digital instrument cluster, and a USB charging port. It is also fitted with a 13-liter fuel tank, while curb weight is rated at around 148 kilograms.
The Suzuki DR160, on the other hand, adopts a more rugged and stripped-down design, featuring minimal fairings, a more pronounced fuel tank, and an LCD instrument display. It is equipped with wire-spoke wheels and a higher-mounted exhaust. These elements position the DR160 as a more versatile option for riders looking to tackle rougher roads and light off-road conditions compared to its V-Strom counterpart.
