R 12 G/S unveiled by BMW Motorrad
BMW Motorrad is revisiting its adventure bike origins with the unveiling of the R 12 G/S—a model directly drawing inspiration from the iconic R 80 G/S.
R 80 G/S inspired, designed for off-road
BMW Motorrad’s history is deeply rooted in off-road motorsport success, with its powerful boxer engines and shaft drive proving their worth in numerous competitions. While the company’s off-road prowess was well-established, it wasn’t until 1980 that it introduced the revolutionary R 80 G/S. This unprecedented production enduro combined off-road capability, touring comfort, and on-road agility, perfectly captured by its “G/S” (off-road/street) designation.
Built for modern off-road, the R 12 G/S echoes the R 80 G/S’s spirit, featuring modern technology, long travel suspension, cross-spoke wheels, and a compact fairing.
100 years of boxer engine
Since 1923, BMW boxer engines have defined the brand, known for their unique design, torque, and sound. The new R 12 G/S continues this legacy with its 1,170cc air/oil-cooled boxer, delivering 109 hp and 115 Nm, paired with a classic enduro-style high-mounted exhaust.
Modern features
Just like any modern BMW motorcycle, the R 12 G/S is packed with modern features such as 3 riding modes (Enduro mode included), traction control, ABS Pro, quick-shifter, tubular bridge steel spaceframe, fully-adjustable USD fork and rear shock absorber; full-LED lighting, and a 12V socket for your mobile/GPS device.
To show its enduro bike prowess, BMW has made the new R 12 G/S roll with a set of 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels.
PH availability and pricing
The new R 12 G/S will be available in three options: Basic in Night Matte color, Rallye, and Option 719 Aragonit.
