Castrol replacing Repsol for Honda’s 2025 MotoGP season
Back in May, Repsol – a multi-national oil and energy company from Spain – has announced that it will part ways with Honda at the end of the 2024 MotoGP season. This announcement puts an end to 30 years of partnership and numerous victories together in MotoGP.
Now, it has been reported that Honda’s factory team has found a new partner for the 2025-onwards MotoGP season and this time, from the 125-year-old British oil company Castrol.
According to sources, the Japanese motorcycle company is just finalizing the deal with Castrol, who will provide a significant contribution to Honda factory team’s campaign starting next year.
Currently, Castrol is one of the major sponsors of Lucio Cecchinello’s LCR MotoGP team (main photo), which also rides on Honda’s 280bhp 1000 cc V4 RC213V motorcycle. Its top rider is Johann Zarco.
Castrol was founded in England as the CC Wakefield & Co., in 1899. It was said that Castrol was just one of CC Wakefield’s motor oils, but eventually changed its name to Castrol when the product sort of became a household name. BP has owned Castrol since 2000 when it bought the company for a reported USD 4.73 billion.
