MPD gets boost from FFCCCII to fight criminals
The Manila Police District (MPD) has reinforced its mobility fleet with 30 brand-new Yamaha NMAX scooters, donated by the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII). Manila Mayor, Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso, personally accepted the donation from FFCCCII President, Victor Lim, and other key officials of the organization.
According to the city government, the new scooters will be assigned to MPD’s different precincts to improve patrol coverage and shorten response time, particularly in areas notorious for “riding-in-tandem” crimes. With Manila’s heavy traffic often slowing down police deployment, these scooters will provide the speed and agility needed to intercept suspects and respond to emergencies.
Yorme—as Manileños fondly call Domagoso—said that these scooters would give the MPD an advantage against criminal elements.
“Kaya sa mga nagra-riding in tandem, mas mabilis na ang motorsiklo ng pulis kaysa sa inyo. Sana huwag na nilang gawin ito dito sa Maynila. Your Manila Police District is ready,” said the mayor during the handover.
(So to those riding-in-tandem criminals, these police scooters are faster than yours. I hope they don’t do this here in Manila.)
Grateful for the FFCCCII’s donation, Yorme said that these new scooters will help police respond faster to threats on the streets. He also said that support from private groups is key to strengthening the city’s fight against crime.
City officials noted that each police station under the MPD will receive units, ensuring better distribution and visibility across the Nation’s Capital. The goal is to place more mobile officers on the road, capable of navigating congested streets that have long hampered patrol cars.
