DOTr supports continued operation of MC Taxis
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced that it supports the continued operations of Motorcycle Taxis (MC Taxis). According to Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, the continued operations of MC Taxis are consistent with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directives to ease the burden of passengers by giving them more options for transport, faster commute, and more time with their families.
Recognizing that the pilot program for motorcycle taxis had ended in 2024 and with the limited legislative time remaining before the current Congress adjourns on June 13, 2025, Secretary Dizon stressed the urgency of the situation.
To address the urgency, Sec. Dizon has committed to issuing a new Department Order (DO) to ensure the legal continuation of MC Taxi services while a permanent law is being considered.
“The permanent solution for the continuous operations of MC Taxis would require congressional action, that’s why the DOTr is committed to working with our lawmakers to come up with viable solutions that greatly benefit both our riders and commuters,” said Dizon.
The transport chief, however, stressed that motorcycle taxis must strictly adhere to the recently issued DO 2025-008 on road safety, as well as all existing standards and regulations concerning vehicle roadworthiness and driver qualifications.
