Benda may have an upcoming 250cc boxer
When we hear about boxer engines—those engines with an opposing “flat” cylinder layout—there could be two or three brands that come to mind: Subaru, Porsche and BMW. Subaru uses a boxer-four layout for many of its models, while BMW has been utilizing the boxer-twin layout as early as 1920. Though Volkswagen’s Beetle days with the boxer are over, Porsche remains a key manufacturer utilizing this engine design in their high-performance sports cars.
The idea of Benda, a Chinese motorcycle brand known for its willingness to experiment with design, developing an entry-level roadster with a boxer-twin engine holds some intriguing possibilities.

Freshly uncovered documents from the Chinese Patent Office have shed light on Benda’s latest project: a new roadster identified as the BD250-3B. While the official specifications remain elusive for now, the available photos and the bike’s designation are offering tantalizing clues about what this new model might have in store.
The photos suggest that the new model from Benda will be powered by a 250cc boxer-twin. What’s even more interesting is that this boxer-twin will be liquid-cooled, and may have a punchy power output for a 250cc.
Other obvious features include Benda’s signature fork covers, disc brakes, dual-channel ABS, “fender eliminator”, full-LED lighting, bar-end mirrors, digital panel, and a pair of alloy wheels. Unlike BMW’s boxer models, Benda chose to have a chain as final drive in this upcoming motorcycle.
This could be a smart move for Benda to tap into some of the appeal associated with established motorcycle brands, albeit in a more “budget meal” package. The unique character and balanced nature of a boxer-twin, even in a smaller displacement, could offer a distinct riding experience that might resonate with new riders, including in the Philippines, looking for something beyond the conventional entry-level options.
