Suzuki files patent for e-Choinori
In October 2023, Suzuki displayed its extensive line-up of vehicles along with the message of presenting to the customers’ diverse initiatives toward a carbon-neutral future at the Japan Mobility Show (JMS).
One of the concept bikes featured was its last-mile solution, the e-Choinori, which is inspired by the 50 cc scooter “Choinori” introduced in 2003. Recently, patent filings suggest that the e-Choinori may be heading to the production floor.
Based on this recent filing, the overall chassis layout seems to be similar to the concept bike that was displayed at the JMS, with the motor unit and the chain final drive prominently showing on the designs.
What could be different is how the battery pack would be laid out. According to the patent drawings, there will be 2 batteries placed on each side of the scooter, just below the seat. To ease charging and portability, the batteries can be pulled out through the sides without the need to remove the seat.
While the other details about how it works are not available at this point, we can only assume that the e-Choinori may come equipped with an indoor charger so that owners can pull the batteries and then charge them while in the office or at home. This is on top of the portable charger that can be plugged outside or in the parking lot where a charger socket is available.
Also at this point, we can only assume that these batteries should have enough juice to propel the e-Choinori to at least 70 kilometers in one full charge, or at least on par with the usual range of the current e-scooters that are available in the market today.
