LTO sets its focus on the fast distribution of 7.2 million license plates
The Land Transportation Office (LTO), has announced that over 1.7 million plates have already been distributed nationwide.
This announcement came just a day after Transportation Secretary, Vince Dizon, and Acting Assistant Secretary and LTO Chief, Atty. Greg G. Pua, Jr., declared the successful elimination of the 11-year backlog in license plates.
“We are now focusing on the distribution of the license plates to their rightful owners in compliance with the directive of the President to expedite the distribution process,” stated Atty. Pua.
In the past two years, the LTO significantly ramped up its plate stamping operations, ultimately producing more than 18 million license plates. This extensive production covered not only the long-standing backlog, but also replacement plates and those for newly purchased motor vehicles and motorcycles.
Additionally, LTO Chief, Atty. Vigor Mendoza II, has instructed all regional directors to implement measures aimed at expediting license plate delivery. Some LTO offices sought assistance from local government units, while others initiated home delivery services for the plates.
According to LTO data, a total of 7,244,926 plates are currently set for distribution, representing the remaining portion of the previously accumulated backlog.
As of the latest figures, 1,799,206 license plates have already been distributed, with the remainder having been sent to regional offices for immediate release.
Atty. Pua has directed all regional directors to expedite the distribution process and concurrently urged motorists to utilize the LTO Tracker. This new technology provides clients with real-time access to the status of their driver’s licenses and motor vehicle plates. It also offers the convenience of having plates delivered directly to their doorsteps via an accredited courier service provider. Owners retain the option to pick up their plates at the specific LTO office where their vehicle was registered.
