Rider hits LTO enforcer while trying to evade checkpoint
Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief, Atty. Vigor Mendoza II is furious over a motorcycle rider who has hit one of the agency’s operatives during a law enforcement activity in Antipolo City.
In a report submitted by LTO Region IV-A Director, Elmer Decena, the incident happened at around 10:00 A.M. in front of St. Anthony Parish Church along Marcos Highway, where the rider was flagged down by LTO enforcers for a No Helmet violation.
But instead of stopping, the motorcycle rider tried to evade the traffic enforcer and in his attempt to make a fast U-turn, he hit one of the LTO enforcers which caused him to crash. The motorcycle rider was later arrested by authorities. As it turns out, the motorcycle rider was carrying what authorities suspect as illegal drugs.
“Kasama sa itinuturo bilang requirement sa pagkuha ng lisensya ay ang respeto sa mga nagpapatupad ng batas. Maliwanag na pambabastos ang ginawa ng rider na ito kaya talagang tututukan ko ang kasong ito para matiyak na maturuan siya ng leksyon,” said Mendoza.
(Respect for law enforcement officers is taught as part of the requirements for getting a driver’s license. It is very clear that this rider had no respect and I’ll personally watch over this case to teach him a lesson.)
The rider was charged with violation of Republic Act (RA) 4136 Resistance and Disobedience to Person in Authority, and Section 11 of RA 9165. The contents of the plastic sachets seized from the motorcycle rider were later confirmed to be shabu and he is now detained at the Antipolo Police Station.
