LTO trains personnel for Light Electric Vehicle inspection
Back in February, the Land Transportation held a press conference announcing its proposed guidelines on the registration of Light Electric Vehicles (LEVs). Then in April, the LTO issued Memorandum Circular VDM-2024-2637, or the Guidelines in the Registration of All Types of Electric Vehicles (EVs). This memo was received by the U.P. Law Center on May 17, 2024.
Just recently, the LTO held a workshop to train and prepare its personnel for LEV inspection.
“[This] workshop aims to equip participants with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills for the inspection of light electric vehicles, ensuring safety and compliance in their integration into the transportation infrastructure,” said the LTO.
Vehicle inspection by the LTO is one of the requirements during the registration process.
Here in the country, these LEVs – electric bicycles, scooters, motorcycles, and light 3 or 4-wheelers – are colloquially and collectively called e-bikes. The LTO might issue another memo or order that will compel all LEV owners to register their units with the agency.
