Topbox registration fee removed by LTO

Back in July 2020, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) reminded motorcycle riders, especially those working in delivery services such as Lalamove, GrabFood, Foodpanda, etc., that custom-made top boxes and saddlebags must be registered with the agency. The registration carries a fee of PHP 100.00.

Now, the LTO has removed this fee.

(This is a great relief to riders who rely on their motorcycles for their livelihood as they no longer have to worry about additional expenses. This policy is in line with the LTO’s 7-Point Policy Agenda that focuses on eliminating unnecessary fees and easing the financial burden of motorcycle-dependent citizens, providing relief to the budget while still maintaining road safety standards.)

No fee, but registration still required

While this is a welcome news to motorcycle riders in this industry, the LTO reiterates that topbox and/or saddlebag registration is still required.

(Although there is no fee, LTO registration will still remain for all custom-made top boxes and saddle bags. The agency emphasizes that this is essential for their duty to check the engine performance, safety, and suitability of vehicles with additional equipment, to ensure that they comply with the LTO's set standards.)

In lieu of an official receipt as proof of registration, the LTO will issue a certification, in accordance with procedures prescribed by its Central Office, to serve as official proof of registration for such custom-made topbox and/or saddlebags.
