Rider who parked in the middle of the road wanted by the LTO

You know that old joke about how our grandparents could buy a whole cartload of groceries for just five pesos (or similar limited budget)? The real kicker is, back then, supermarkets didn’t have CCTVs, which apparently made “stretching” that budget a lot easier.

In today’s world, where smartphones are practically an extension of ourselves, it’s commonplace for people to document and share everything online, including instances of improper vehicle or motorcycle parking, and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) is monitoring these on social media.

Just recently, a photo of a motorcycle in Antipolo City went viral on social media. Apparently, the owner just parked and left his motorcycle in the middle of a busy road. This irked netizens and has prompted the LTO to summon its registered owner to explain why he should not be penalized.

“It just makes us shake our heads at motorists who behave like this on the road. However, we also want to hear their side because they have a right to due process,” says LTO chief, Atty. Vigor Mendoza II.

“But what I can assure the angry netizens is that if we are not convinced by the reason cited by whoever parked that motorcycle in the middle road, he’s going to have a very big problem with the LTO,” he added.

According to Mendoza, the LTO’s investigation, which began with a Show Cause Order (SCO) issued to the motorcycle’s registered owner using information from the viral photo, also seeks to determine if that owner was the individual who parked the vehicle in the middle of the road.

While the investigation continues, Mendoza stated that the motorcycle has already been placed on alarm.
