Auction of impounded/abandoned motorcycles by LTO IV-A
In 2022, a Land Transportation Office (LTO) in the province of Isabela made headlines when it tried to auction off dilapidated/good-as-junk impounded motorcycles with unrealistic starting bidding prices. The unloading of these impounded motorcycles is part of the government’s policy to 1) clear impounding areas of unclaimed/abandoned vehicles, and 2) to generate income. Auctions like this are done when impounded vehicles remain unclaimed from authorities after a certain period. For LTO, it is 6 months from the date of apprehension.
Now, LTO CALABARZON – Region IV, is inviting interested parties to participate in the auction of impounded motorcycles on April 15, 2025. The motorcycles are categorized as “Serviceable” and “Unserviceable”. Serviceable motorcycles, according to LTO, are working motorcycles that may just require some minor fixes to make them road-worthy again. Unserviceable motorcycles, on the other hand, are non-working, non-road-worthy motorcycles that are just best for parting out of usable spare parts.
The method of bidding will be by “lots”, meaning these impounded motorcycles will not be sold individually but by a couple of units per lot.
For example, Lot 1 (unserviceable) in LTO Tagaytay, which consists of a 2005 Honda TMX 155, a 2018 SYM Bonus 110, and a 2008 Honda RS 125, has a floor price of PHP 4,652. For serviceable motorcycles, the lowest available is Lot 1 from LTO Cavite District Office, with 4 models from Honda and 1 from Suzuki. The floor price is PHP 262,286.40.
These motorcycles will be sold on an "as is, where is" basis.
