LTO chief orders investigation on Angkas motorcade
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief, Atty. Vigor Mendoza II has ordered a probe on a recent viral video involving Angkas and its riders during a motorcade last Sunday, February 2.
In the video that went viral on social media, motorcycle riders wearing Angkas uniforms blocked the flow of traffic along a major thoroughfare in Cainta, angering motorists who were in their right-of-way. Angkas CEO and Partylist candidate, George Royeca, already took responsibility for the incident and has since issued a public apology.
“We already identified the group involved and we want them to explain why they should not be sanctioned for obstructing traffic flow. Ang nangyari dito ay parang sila-sila lang ang nagplano at nagsagawa ng motorcade, pero damay-damay na pati LTO sa galit ng ating mga kababayan na naperwisyo,” said Mendoza.
Mendoza added that he wants to identify the riders who deliberately blocked the road for them to separately explain why they should not be sanctioned for acting as if they are deputized by the government to manage traffic flow. The LTO chief said what the riders displayed are clear violation of the traffic rules and regulations and also showed abuse and lack of courtesy and discipline.
“Hindi puwede na parang may kanya-kanya tayong gobyerno na gagawin natin kung ano ang gusto natin at the expense of the motorists and the commuters. I need explanation on this and if it needs to impose harsh sanctions, so be it,” said Mendoza.
Meanwhile, Cainta Mayor, Atty. Elenita “Elen” Nieto, has sanctioned Angkas with a community service punishment.
