January-August 2025 sales up, with scooters leading the way
The Philippine motorcycle industry continues to accelerate through 2025, with the latest report from the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, Inc. (MDPPA) showing sustained double-digit growth in sales.
In August 2025 alone, total sales hit 158,228 units, an 18.4% increase from 133,689 units sold during the same month last year. From January to August, overall sales reached 1,227,160 units, up 11.8% from 1,098,056 units in 2024.
Industry analysts attribute this steady climb to the growing reliance on motorcycles as an affordable, efficient solution for daily mobility—especially amid worsening traffic congestion across major cities.
Earlier this year, MDPPA projected a 5% full-year growth for 2025, driven by “strong consumer demand, expanding delivery and mobility services, and the appeal of motorcycles as a practical mobility option.”
Automatic motorcycles continue to dominate the market, with 106,382 units sold in August—up 24.8% year-on-year. Mopeds followed with 21,805 units, a 3% increase, while business motorcycles logged 26,399 units, up 14.4% from 2024.
Meanwhile, the “Other” category—which includes street bikes, big bikes, off-road models, tricycles, and electric units—saw a dip to 3,642 units, down 13.7% from 4,220 units last year.
“Despite declines in some segments, the industry as a whole remains in a healthy position,” said Engr. Alexander Cumpas, MDPPA President. “This positive growth trajectory underscores the enduring relevance of motorcycles in the everyday lives of Filipinos and reflects a resilient, evolving industry.”
The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, Inc. (MDPPA) stands as the country’s leading organization representing and responding to the needs of stakeholders in the Philippine motorcycle industry. Its members include top manufacturers Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, and TVS—brands that have long shaped the local riding landscape.
Committed to advancing the industry, MDPPA actively addresses key global challenges in road safety, regulatory compliance, environmental sustainability, technology, and innovation through ongoing consultation, representation, and collaboration with both public and private sectors.
Among its recent initiatives is the Tropang MAALAM (Tropang Modelo, Alerto, Aktibo, Ligtas, Aalalay, at Matalino) campaign—a nationwide advocacy that promotes rider safety through education, awareness, and hands-on training.
