MMDA announces June 12 road closures for the 127th Independence Day rites
Major roads leading to Rizal Park in Manila will experience temporary closures on Thursday, June 12, to make way for the 127th Philippine Independence Day Celebration. Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes to avoid anticipated heavy traffic.
Road Closures and Affected Areas
The northbound and southbound lanes of Roxas Boulevard, stretching from Buendia to P. Burgos Drive in Manila, will be closed to traffic from 5:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
Simultaneous road closures will also be implemented in the following areas:
- Bonifacio Drive (from P. Burgos to Anda Circle)
- TM Kalaw Street (from Taft Avenue to Roxas Boulevard)
- Burgos Street (from Taft Avenue to Roxas Boulevard)
- Finance Road (from Taft Avenue to P. Burgos Drive)
- Maria Orosa Street (from TM Kalaw to P. Burgos Drive)
Additionally, the entire stretches of Katigbak Drive, Independence Road, and South Road will be inaccessible to vehicular traffic from 12:01 AM to 11:30 AM.
Alternate Routes for Motorists
Affected motorists should avoid the closure areas and consider these alternate routes:
- Light Vehicles
Going North: From Roxas Boulevard, turn right at Buendia, then left at Taft Avenue towards your destination. Alternatively, turn right at EDSA then left at Osmeña to reach your destination.
Going South: From R-10 to Bonifacio Drive going to Anda Circle, turn left to Soriano Avenue, then right to Solana Street, left to Muralla Street, left to Magallanes Drive, then right to P. Burgos Avenue towards your destination.
- Trucks (North Harbor Bound):
From SLEX, proceed straight to Osmeña Highway, then turn right to Quirino Avenue, continue straight to Nagtahan Street, merge onto Lacson Avenue, turn left to Yuseco Street, and proceed straight to Capulong Street, then turn right or left to R-10 road towards your destination.
Trucks coming from the Parañaque Area should turn right at EDSA going to Magallanes Service Road, then make a left turn to Osmeña Highway to Nagtahan, then Lacson Avenue to their destinations.
Trucks heading south may utilize the same route.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will deploy 1,100 personnel from various offices to manage traffic and monitor the situation. Essential equipment such as ambulances, tow trucks, barriers, and plastic cones will also be strategically deployed to ensure the peaceful and orderly conduct of the Independence Day celebration.
