More Pinoys are buying scooters
The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, Inc. (MDPPA), has announced its 2024 sales figures and it’s looking great: 1,682,482 motorcycles sold. This means a 7% growth vs 2023’s 1,577,597 motorcycles sold.
“Despite ongoing challenges in the industry, MDPPA is pleased to share that the 7% growth achieved in 2024 is the highest among our ASEAN neighbors,” said MDPPA president, Alex Cumpas.
He added that while the Philippines experienced a 7% growth, our ASEAN neighbors Malaysia and Indonesia only had a 2% growth for 2024.
Scooters still Pinoy favorite
Out of the almost 1.7 million motorcycles sold in 2024, scooters continue to be a Pinoy favorite, comprising 64% of the market share, while the business models and undebones follow suit, with 17% and 16.3% market share, respectively. Big bikes comprise the remaining 2.7% of the total MC sales for 2024.
