NAIAX speed limit still at 60 km/h, not 80 km/h
There’s quite a commotion today on social media groups related to users of South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), particularly NAIA Expressway (NAIAX). For those who are not familiar, SMC Infrastructure Tollways – the operator of SLEX, Skyway, Skyway Stage 3, Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR), Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) and NAIAX – imposes a 60 km/h speed limit on this elevated expressway near the country’s primary gateway to the world. This is of course, for safety reasons.
So going back to the commotion on social media groups, NAIAX users noticed that “80” signs have been erected in key areas along the said expressway, signifying that the 60 km/h speed limit has been “upgraded” to 80 km/h.
But hold your horses, our colleagues at Autoindustriya.com has contacted SMC Southern Tollways’ General Manager, Nelly Argota, to shed some light on the matter. According to Argota, the 60 km/h speed limit on NAIAX is still in effect.
“No official communication yet but we are studying it [80 km/h]. So until meron na we are at 60 km/h pa rin,” said Argota.
She also added that 80 km/h signages should have been covered since there is no official communication yet from SMC regarding the speed limit change.
So again, unless you want a speeding ticket, a PHP 2,000 fine, and a trip to LTO Lipa to retrieve your driver's license, stick to 60 km/h whenever you are riding (or driving) along NAIAX.
