LTO 7 slammed for planned apprehension of MCs with temporary plates
Senate Majority Leader, Sen. Francis Tolentino was not happy with the Land Transportation Office Region 7’s plan to apprehend motorcycle riders with temporary license plates starting September 1, 2024.
According to Tolentino, he can’t comprehend the logic behind the directive of LTO Region 7, saying that the LTO can’t provide license plates and yet the motorcycle-riding public has to be penalized for the agency’s shortcomings.
“I question the logic behind apprehending motorcycle riders for not having official license plates when it is the LTO's responsibility to provide those plates. I call upon LTO Region 7 to wait for the President's signing of the new law. Our motorcycle riders are not at fault here, yet they are the ones being punished. And also, why single out Cebu?” said Tolentino.
Tolentino also said that he will write to Department of Transportation Secretary, Jaime Bautista, to urge him to review the upcoming directive from LTO Region 7.
Also, according to the Senator, he will request that any similar directives that involve motorcycle license plates be put on hold until House Bill 2555 is passed into law, amending certain provisions of Republic Act 11235 commonly known to the motorcycle community as the “Doble Plaka Law”. HB 2555 was principally authored by Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito, a motorcycle enthusiast himself.
