LTO-6 disqualifies rider over viral ‘Superman’ stunt
Professional motorcycle stunts are undeniably impressive and can be inspiring. But, performing these stunts on public roads, where they put fellow motorists and other road users at risk of a collision, is an entirely different and unacceptable matter. Such riders doing these dangerous antics are commonly referred to as “kamote” in rider communities and are widely frowned upon.
For performing a dangerous ‘Superman’ stunt on public roads in Negros Occidental, a rider has been permanently banned by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) from obtaining a driver’s license.
The incident, which quickly went viral on social media, depicted a rider on a Honda Click motorcycle lying flat on the seat while speeding along Orange Cliff in Don Salvador Benedicto on July 13, 2025. The reckless act garnered widespread condemnation from netizens for its blatant disregard for road safety.
Following an internal investigation, LTO Region 6 Regional Director, Atty. Gaudioso Geduspan II, approved a resolution submitted by LTO-6 Intelligence and Investigation Unit Chief Ms. Shiela Mae Alulod, which recommended the immediate and permanent disqualification of the rider from ever securing a driver’s license.
“This act posed a serious risk to public safety and is a blatant violation of safe driving practices,” the resolution stated.
A Show Cause Order, issued on July 14, was served to the registered owner of the motorcycle, who admitted to informally lending the vehicle to the rider involved in the stunt.
In response to the order, the rider confessed to performing the stunt, claiming it was intended solely for a photo opportunity and that his speed was only around 24 km/h. He also expressed remorse and pledged to refrain from repeating the offense.
Section 48 of Republic Act No. 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, says that reckless driving is defined as operating a vehicle without due caution or in a manner that endangers life or property. An LTO database check further confirmed that the rider did not possess a valid driver’s license, significantly aggravating the offense.
Consequently, LTO-6 has ordered the placement of the rider’s name on its alarm list, effectively barring him from being issued a driver’s license in the future.
He will also face fines for violating provisions on ‘Reckless Driving’ and ‘Driving Without a Valid Driver’s License’ under Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01.
LTO-6 reiterated its firm commitment to proactively monitor social media and collaborate with local law enforcement agencies to curb similar dangerous stunts across the region.
