Suzuki's GSX 8 receives a neo retro update
Suzuki Motor Corporation officially unveiled its updated GSX-8 with the GSX-8T and GSX-8TT street bikes. The good news, according to our friends from Suzuki Philippines, is that these neo-retro models are slated to be available “very soon,” which we assume to be within 2025.
The new GSX-8T and GSX-8TT seamlessly blend the unique and attractive elements of Suzuki’s iconic past models with modern design, incorporating the latest in technology, engines, and chassis. Both bikes feature a distinctive round headlight, inspired by the characteristic flat-bottom light seen on many classic Suzuki models.
Notably, they also introduce Suzuki’s first-ever bar-end mirrors, creating a contemporary look while still evoking a strong sense of retro charm. Enhanced agility and comfort are achieved through the combination of a compact 776cc engine—highly praised in the GSX-8S/R models—a high-rigidity steel frame, and a lightweight aluminum swingarm.
These new motorcycles are equipped with a suite of electronic control systems designed to assist riders, including the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.), Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS) with three power output characteristics, ride-by-wire throttle, and a bi-directional quick-shift system for seamless gear changes without clutch or throttle operation.
Additional features like Traction Control (with 3 modes + OFF), Suzuki Easy Start System, and Low RPM Assist contribute to a safe and enjoyable riding experience for a wide range of users. Powering these systems is a lightweight, compact, and highly reliable lithium-ion battery from ELIIY Power, which maintains high startability even in low temperatures.
GSX-8T
The GSX-8T is meticulously designed to evoke the spirit of the T500, famously known as the Titan—a high-performance naked bike from the 1960s. Its distinctive color scheme highlights the fuel tank while presenting the rear of the body in matte black. A prominent 3D-raised emblem on the shroud, inspired by the eight ball symbolizing a decisive move in billiards, results in a design that masterfully blends retro aesthetics with modern touches.
GSX-8TT
Meanwhile, the GSX-8TT distinguishes itself with a headlight cowl reminiscent of Suzuki’s classic models and an undercowl whose design draws inspiration from 1970s road racers. The body color palette includes black front forks and shrouds, complemented by gray seat rails, creating a premium and composed scheme that subtly emphasizes the sporty accents of its wheels and decals. The “TT” in its name signifies the combination of the base GSX-8T model with “Timeless,” representing a modern revival of classic motorcycle design.
Both the GSX-8T and GSX-8TT are powered by the same 776cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin DOHC engine, offering (claimed) 23.8 km/L fuel efficiency. These bikes feature standard cast wheels, a 16.5-liter fuel tank, and 120/70ZR17M/C front / 180/55ZR17M/C rear tubeless tires for stable handling.
While sharing the same overall dimensions, the GSX-8T has an 815mm seat height and 201kg curb weight, while the GSX-8TT has an 810mm seat and 203kg weight. These bikes blend heritage with modern performance.
